Nestlé R&D consists of a unique network of 17 centers on four continents, all contributing to creation of new products and renovation of existing products. Within this interactive network, the Nestlé Research Center (NRC) plays a central role by generating basic scientific knowledge to fuel the Nestlé Science and Technology Pipeline for all Nestlé foods. NRC is located in a beautiful region of Switzerland close to Lausanne and the Lake of Geneva. Its five scientific departments provide the competence base in Nutrition, Bioscience, Plant Science, Food Science and Quality & Safety. NRC has a permanent staff of 570 as well as some 70 temporary positions for postdocs and doctorate students, trainees, etc. coming from over 40 nations. With over 250 outside scientific contracts, some 200 publications and 35 patents in the year 2001, NRC is very much part of the international scientific community. NRC is a major employer of scientists from all over the world. These include nutritionists, chemists, biochemists, physicists, biologists, medical doctors, physiologists, computer specialists, immunologists, veterinarians, pharmacists, bio-informaticians, mathematicians, sensory analysts, toxicologists and engineers as well as highly qualified scientific and technical assistants. The NRC provides a stimulating environment, both academic and business-oriented, with challenging career possibilities.
